I learned some interesting information today about major record companies and what they are attempting to do to local radio stations at www.saveyourradio.org.
The foreign owned record companies are spending millions of dollars lobbying Congress to pass a bill that would establish a “performance tax” - forcing local radio stations to pay for the music that is currently provided to listeners like us for free.
If the record labels get this bill passed, it will cause many local radio stations to go silent. Even radio stations owned by large radio companies will be forced off the air and the stations that do survive will not sound like the radio we know and love today. Local radio needs our help. I signed a petition and sent a letter to my congressional leaders. I urge you to do the same. Go to www.saveyourradio.org, you can sign the petition and send emails to your congressional leaders in one simple step. It only takes a minute and you will be helping to insure that radio can keep providing us with great music and continue offering vital services to our local communities (such as emergency alerts, AMBER alerts, news, weather, etc.).
